Ascended Masters

Ascended Masters are believed to be non-physical beings who were once human, but who moved on to a higher plane by living exceptional lives. They are said to act as guides for humankind, assisting us in our spiritual development towards a time when all people will eventually attain their 'Ascension' and move forward in spiritual evolution beyond this planet.

The idea was first presented in the 1870s by Madame Blavatsky, principal founder of Theosophy, who claimed she channelled her information about Ascended Masters from a group of highly evolved (but physical) people in the Himalayas.

Blavatsky originally described a small number of Ascended Masters, with whom she says she communicated regularly, and even claimed to have a photograph of some of them (see picture above). Today, the list of Ascended Masters has increased, and some say they include such different people as Jesus and Walt Disney.
